Student Discount on Car Insurance

As a teenager who is ready to hit the roads, car insurance may be the last thing on your mind, but in the larger scheme of things it would be a good idea to get yourself insured. It has been statistically proven that a vast majority of road accidents involve teenagers and this is a very good reason why a student should have car insurance.

A student will normally have the highest insurance rates among drivers but there are ways of reducing it. The two major factors that determine your interest rates are your age and the type of car that you drive around.

A teenage driver, without car insurance, could be in a world of trouble if he is involved in a car accident. He can easily be suspended for the same or even be forced to serve jail time. The accident could hit him and his family financially and this could put his entire future and academics in danger.

There is no reason to endure all this when insurance is such an easy option. There are several ways of getting a discount on car insurance if you are a student.

 Good Student Insurance Discount

A student who does well in his academics is less likely to drive rashly and get into an accident. He or she can get a discount for the insurance if his or her grades are in the top 20 % of the class or if he or she has a 3.0 GPA.

 Driver Training Discount

A discount of around 20 % can be availed on completion of the Advanced Driver Training course or some other driving course by any driver below the age of 21.

 Infrequent Driver Student Discount

This insurance applies in cases where the son or daughter only uses the family car when they are home during the vacations. He or she will not need to be insured separately and will be covered just as any relative or friend of the family would be if involved.

 Low Mileage Student Discount

If the car is only used for a short distance to go to college and back and the student uses public transport or carpools most of the time, then this discount is perfect in such a situation.

There are many other options for students. It would be best to consult your agent before you opt for one.
